A decades-old saga regarding the management of Harrington Road between Grenville-sur-la-Rouge and Harrington Township might be coming to its conclusion in the near future.

Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Mayor John Saywell says his municipality will try to alleviate some of its northern neighbour's concerns about heavy truck traffic on Harrington Road in the coming year.

Search parties continued on Tuesday to scour the woods of Montcalm, near Harrington, searching for a 29-year-old man who was reported missing at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

According to Sûreté du Quebec spokesperson Geneviève Bruneau, the man would have entered the woods with a friend early Sunday morning so that they could began laying trap lines in the large forested area between Arundel and Harrington.

It's not uncommon to find yourself lost in a vast woods where every tree and valley can look alike.

But it's not every teenager who can say that after losing his way, he proceeded to build an emergency shelter out of sticks and brush and find a safe place to await rescue.

That's exactly what happened to a 15-year-old boy from Sainte-Eustache, who became separated from the other 50 members of his cadet group during an October 1 orienteering session in the woods of Gore.

A motion has been filed in the Superior Court of Quebec for authorization to proceed with a class-action lawsuit against Colacem Canada Inc. in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.

The motion was filed in Saint-Jérôme on Monday, June 13 on behalf of all residents who have lived or operated a business in either Grenville-sur-la-Rouge or Harrington, within the last three years or more, and within a five-kilometre radius of the cement and concrete production plant.

A noisy motorbike driving on Gregalach Road in Gore inspired a citizen to lodge a complaint on Saturday, April 30 that drew Sûreté du Quebec police to the area, where they were able to locate the motorcycle - and bust a cannabis-growing operation visible on the premises.

According to SQ Sgt. Gilles Mitchell, when officers arrived on the scene, they found the motorcycle abandoned on the street and from where they were standing, police officers were able to see cannabis growing in the neighbouring garage.

While church parishioners were sweeping up broken glass following the theft of the only piece of stained glass at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Gore, thieves were at work less than 10 kilometres away, at St. Aidan's Anglican Church in Wentworth.

It is the fourth such theft across the region in about two weeks.

According to St. Aidan's rector warden Lois Armitage, the theft occurred between Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10 when the church, community centre and neighbouring town hall were closed for the weekend.

However, copper thieves in the Argenteuil region put a number of residents on hold earlier this month when they snipped Bell Canada telephone wires in two municipalities, in an attempt to steal the highly-priced copper they contain.

It is with pleasure that the Municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge wishes to announce the acquisition of a new fire truck for the Harrington North Fire Hall.

At the presentation, Daniel Gauthier, president of the fire department and public safety committees, stated, "It was time for our municipality and its partner, the Municipality of Harrington, to sign an agreement to acquire the equipment that will serve all the citizens of the area."

While the skies were still dark in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 18, Sûreté du Quebec (SQ) police officers from the Western Regional Investigation Unit gathered outside of four residences in Harrington, Mascouche, Laval and Saint-Hippolyte.

The officers then raided the four establishments at 6 a.m., where they seized significant amounts of marijuana and pills.

Cleaning out the garage just got a little easier for Harrington residents, who will now be able to travel to a new temporary eco-centre to toss away paint cans, metal, tires, construction materials and outdated propane tanks.

The new eco-centre opened on Saturday, August 7 and is located along Highway 327, on the Chemin Depatoir, at the former location of the municipal garbage dump. The centre will be open every Saturday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

After less than one year in office, the Harrington council is once again asking residents to head to the polls and elect a councillor to represent their interests at town hall.

Councillor Robert Parkinson resigned earlier this year after it was revealed that he did not meet the provincial standards to be a councillor.

Four candidates have thrown their names into the race for council seat number five. An advance vote is being held at the Harrington Valley Community Centre on Sunday, July 11, between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.

After years spent waiting for the incessant drone of the beeping dial-up connection to end, Harrington residents will soon be able to put an end to the misery of slow internet connections and the lengthy task of sending and receiving e-mail attachments.

Wireless point-to-point broadband internet provider Groupe Acces Communications has announced that within 60 days they will be able to provide high-speed internet capability to over 95 per cent of Harrington residents.

Residents of Harrington showed up in force at the town's last two council meetings, where they presented a petition detailing their outrage at a new draft bylaw that proposes to severely limit the use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and ski-doos within municipal limits.

A petition to halt the proposed bylaw was signed by about 400 Harrington residents, representing about half of Harrington's population of 796.

The township of Harrington has continued its plan to invest in fire safety with the purchase of a new $375,000 pumper-tanker fire truck.

"The new truck will offer the firefighters greater flexibility when combating fires," said Harrington Councillor Claude LaRoque.

Driving through Wentworth will be a little smoother and far less treacherous next year due to a near $500,000 investment in the repair of Glen Road.

As the main link to the nearby towns of Morin-Heights and Saint-Jerome, the main thoroughfare of Wentworth has reached a state of advanced deterioration in recent years, one requiring major repairs to paving and drainage.

Despite a few bumps in the road, the Canadian Amateur Musicians/Musiciens amateurs du Canada (CAMMAC) is looking forward to the future with a positive attitude.

After completing construction on a brand new sustainable building in 2006, the well-known music lovers' paradise is currently in the midst of a lawsuit.

According to CAMMAC board president Harry Qualman, there have been "major problems" with the new building, "through no fault of our own.

For the second year, the Municipality of Gore is working with volunteers to prepare Christmas baskets for those in need of a little extra help this Christmas.

Argenteuil MNA David Whissell contributed $1,000 from his discretionary fund to help with the charity fundraiser which aims to make 25-35 baskets. The food baskets are primarily comprised of food, but donations of toys are also being accepted.
