Significant pieces of Canadian history are closer to home that you might think.

Parks Canada, the federal agency responsible for managing the country's national parks and historical sites, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. With that in mind, and as a follow-up to the recent Canada Day celebrations, Parks Canada is inviting the public to celebrate its special birthday with a free "doors open" day at its sites this Saturday, July 16.

The Hawkesbury Hawks recently announced the appointment of Shawn Anderson, a former NHL first-round pick, as the team's new head coach.

The 42-year-old native of Hudson, Quebec replaces Bob Paquette, who served as head coach on an interim basis after Martin Dagenais stepped down from his coaching duties on October 12 to focus on his responsibilities as the Hawks general manager.

The 4th annual Hudson Music Festival and Street Fair will take place from Wednesday, July 28 to Sunday, August 1.

The festival is a collaboration between many artists, individuals and businesses in the local area. It includes feature "Salon" concerts at unique heritage homes located in the Hudson area, "Grand" concerts at local churches, and special performances at local restaurants.
