The driver of a compact car was killed after colliding with a tractor trailer along County Road 17 on Thursday, February 16.

Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to the scene, about two kilometres east of Tupper Street, at 11:55 a.m.

The initial investigation suggests the driver of a small Kia Rio died on impact. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Paramedics with Prescott-Russell Emergency Services, firefighters from the East Hawkesbury Fire Department, an OPP technical traffic collision investigator and a coroner were on scene Thursday.

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo officially began on Tuesday, September 20, with organizers, participants and vendors welcoming the thousands of guests to the Kirby, Connors and Lachaine farms in Chute-à-Blondeau.

The opening ceremonies were held on Tuesday morning, in the presence of the Queen of the Furrow contestants, dignitaries, organizers and local politicians.

With the 2011 International Plowing Match (IPM) now in full swing, many residents understand that there will be speed limit reductions and traffic congestion on normally quiet highways and back roads.

However, resident Michel Lanthier said if speed limits are going to be reduced in a certain area, there needs to be proper signage posted so people don't get caught off guard.

Barton is serving as the Chair for the 2011 International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Show (IPM), which will run from September 20 to 24 in Chute-a-Blondeau.

What's black and white but blue all over? That would be the blue cow of the Dairy Farmers of Canada, which is expected to make a big splash at the International Plowing Match (IPM) from September 20 to 24.

The blue cow logo, seen on dairy products made with 100-per-cent Canadian milk, will be featured prominently at an IPM exhibition tent on behalf of the Dairy Farmers of Canada and the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

Prescott County's Queen of the Furrow, Courtney Connors, wants to put an end to all the blank looks she receives when she tells people about the title she received last year.

"When I say, 'I am the Queen of the Furrow,' I often get strange or blank looks from people," she said. "A furrow is a narrow channel made in the ground by, or as if by, a plow."

According to the most recent data provided by Statistics Canada, the number of farms in the country has been steadily decreasing over the past 20 years.

The agency's latest Census of Agriculture reports that in 2006, there were a total of 229,373 farms in Canada, down from 293,089 in 1986.

The latest figure also represents a seven-per-cent decline from 2001, a loss of 17,550 farms during the five-year period between the previous census.

Since the beginning, the club's objectives have been to create an interest in the breeding and sale of registered Holstein cattle, to promote a keener spirit of cooperation and fellowship, and to assist in the improvement of existing herds and the establishment of new herds.

But that is just what the Quilt of Belonging has done.

The renowned quilt will be on display at the International Plowing Match (IPM) from September 20 to 24 in the quilting portion of the Country Living Tent.

Mary Leduc, coordinator of the Country Living portion of the match, said visitors are in for a real treat.

Without warning, more than 5,000 people from Plantagenet to Chute-à-Blondeau were plunged into darkness just after 7 p.m. on Friday, August 12.

According to Nancy Shaddick, a spokesperson with Hydro One, the first report came in to Hydro One's outage report line at about 7:36 p.m.

"We have a number people can call to report an outage and it's very helpful when people use it," she told The Review during a phone interview Monday morning. "People are able to call us and let us know what's going on in their area."

With the 2011 International Plowing Match (IPM) just around the corner, regional mayors are concerned road work near the site could put a damper on the party.

The united counties' director of public works, Marc Clermont, advised regional mayors on Tuesday, June 28 that the Ministry of Transportation is in the process of completing a detail design study for the rehabilitation of two Highway 417 interchange ramps at County Road 4 and 14.

"The location is between St-Eugene and Chute-à-Blondeau, which is where the IPM is going to be held in September," he explained.

An alert to motorists traveling on Concession 1 Road and Ranger Road in Chute-à-Blondeau: reader Jason Reasbeck sent these photos to The Review this week, noting he is concerned that a flatbed trailer has been parked overnight in the area for more than a week.

The trailer, which is registered to a driver on Concession 1 Road in Chute-à-Blondeau, is being parked on both roads, according to the photos provided by Reasbeck.
