Blaze destroys Grenville bungalow
It took less than 10 minutes for a small wooden bungalow in Grenville to be completely engulfed by flames last Tuesday, September 6.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 147 rue Principale at 5:34 p.m. and by the time they began fighting the blaze six minutes later, flames were already coming out of the front windows.
"It happened very rapidly, within 10 minutes," explained Grenville fire chief Stephane Aubry. "The whole interior of the house is destroyed."
He confirmed that a woman and her two children were in the house, but were alerted by the smoke detector and escaped the house with minor injuries.
Aubry also explained the home was too badly burned to determine the exact cause of the fire, calling it "a loss," though he estimated the damages at about $90,000. An insurance investigation may yet determine more conclusive information, he added.
A total of 25 firefighters from Grenville and Grenville-sur-la-Rouge battled the fire, and gained control of it around 6:30 p.m.
The blaze was completely extinguished by 9 p.m.
