Blood donor clinic at VCI on March 4
You just might be the type to save a life.
That's why Canadian Blood Services is encouraging potential donors to come to the blood donor clinic at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI), held Thursday, March 4 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Carolyn Boucher, community development co-ordinator, blood donor services, told The Review there are still 71 appointment slots available and the hope is that all appointments will be taken by tomorrow.
"We want all those slots filled with people who want to give the gift of life," she commented.
Boucher said approximately every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood. In fact, according to a recent poll, 52 per cent of Canadians say they, or a family member, have needed blood or blood products for surgery or for medical treatment.
"One blood donation, in just one hour, can save up to three lives," she remarked.
Canadian Blood Services is responsible for recruiting blood and bone marrow donors, as well as collecting blood, plasma, and platelets at 41 permanent collection sites and more than 19,000 donor clinics annually.
