Canada Post abusing its mandate
Dateline:
Dalkeith
On Friday, April 3we encountered two Canada Post employees at the end of our driveway from Delivery Safety who informed
us that they had just installed a picket at the rear of a neighbour’s property (which is wild bush)
down the road.
This picket is to be the location of our mailbox and must be installed within 14 days or forfeit delivery
of the mail. The measurement is 70 metres (or 227 feet) from the stop sign.
That intersection is considered by Canada Post to be uncontrolled.
The existing mailbox has been in place since 1993 without incident. To put the
new mailbox down the road is completely unreasonable.
Our civic number is on the mailbox (no civic number post was installed at the driveway by Lochiel
and North Glengarry tells me I must purchase a sign). The Ottawa Citizen is also delivered to the
mailbox.
I question why it is supposedly safe for a school bus to stop but not an employee
of Canada Post?
During the visit from the Delivery Safety staff, which lasted roughly 20
minutes, not one car passed. Irvine Road is a poorly maintained dirt road in
North Glengarry that rarely gets graded and hasn’t seen
gravel for at least two years. That’s amalgamation for you.
Why has the postage continued to go up?
Canada post made permanent employees of the rural letter
carriers and gave them benefits. To make matters worse, suddenly all letter
carriers needed an employee to help deliver the mail in the name of safety.
Then our safety patrol shows up, two to a car, in a company vehicle to harass us
with this unreasonable demand.
Can anyone imagine the problems if an ambulance is required
with two identical civic numbers in different places?
I hope other affected people rise up and let it be known
that this is nothing more than another insult and inconvenience
by a corporation funded by taxpayers that is abusing
its mandate.
Ontario Hydro and MPAC are two other outfits gone wild. But that is a story for another day.
