Champlain Township park officially renamed

Developer donates children's play structure

Champlain Township officially renamed a park in its eastern area during a small ceremony on Wednesday, August 5. The parc Desjardins-Laurentian Park was so named in recognition of real-estate developer André Desjardins' purchase of a children's play structure.
Champlain and Hawkesbury agreed on a deal about two years ago that saw Champlain cede land
west of Laurentian Park to Hawkesbury so that Desjardins could increase the number of lots he could develop.
Hawkesbury then agreed to extend water and sewer services to the 40 homes in Laurentian
Park.
Th e $969,500 project was funded through the Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure
Fund.
Mayor Gary J. Barton thanked the businessman for the play structure, citing the benefits.
Champlain councillor Gérard Miner also thanked Desjardins and added the park has been very busy since the structure was installed.
