Dalkeith carnival back in town this weekend
The fierce cold snap of the last few days has come and gone, leaving the winter weather just right for an upcoming carnival weekend in Dalkeith.
The fun begins with open skating at the hockey rink this Friday, January 28 at 5 p.m., followed by a masquerade at the rink at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., there will be four-on-four hockey for those over 40.
Also that evening, there will be a partners pool tournament at 7 p.m. The cost to enter is $5; call Michel Duval at 613-874-2495 or Alan Tessier at 613-874-2277 to register. At 9 p.m., DJ Julien Legault will perform a set and provide the music for an evening of dancing.
Legault, a Dalkeith resident, was selected last year by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Ontario and, with the help of donations from family, friends and local businesses, he received new professional disc jockey equipment last summer and is eager to perform.
On Saturday, January 29, activities at the rink start off with broomball from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by skating from 3 to 5 p.m. and broomball from 5 to 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., a second round of four-on-four hockey takes place for those aged 40 and over.
The carnival parade takes place on Saturday at 2 p.m. Call Ian MacLennan at 613-874-2385 or Patrick Ménard at 613-874-1216 for more information.
Also on Saturday, there will be a Robbie Burns breakfast from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the library. Other indoor activities include a euchre tournament at 11 a.m., the pool tournament finals at 1 p.m., and the carnival dance with Mystic at 9 p.m. The dance costs $8.
Sunday, January 30 features the kiddies' corner activity at noon, hockey at the rink from 1 to 3 p.m., and the Frisotine clown show at 1:30 p.m. In the evening, a roast beef dinner begins at 4:30 p.m. ($10 cost) and the carnival concludes with a 50/50 draw at 7 p.m.
The carnival is hosted by the Dalkeith Recreation Association. For more information, call Jerry at 613-874-2084 or e-mail dalkeith.recreation@gmail.com.
