Dalkeith is gearing up for winter carnival

Now that we have some snow and the temperatures are feeling more seasonal, Dalkeith is getting ready to celebrate winter with its Winter Carnival.

The carnival is set to run from Friday, January 27 to Sunday, January 29.

The event will kick off with open skating from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by pick-up hockey from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Four-on-four hockey for those 40 and over will begin at 8 p.m. following by music and dancing with Norm Campeau, who will begin playing country western-style music at 9 p.m.

There will also be a pool tournament at 7 p.m. Registration is $5 and there will be trophies awarded to winning pairs.

Saturday's events kick off with a brunch celebrating Robbie Burns, Scotland's most famous poet. While Robbie Burns day officially takes place on January 25, the brunch will bring together those who wish to pay homage to the well-known writer and poet.

The brunch will take place at the Dalkeith Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A euchre tournament will take place at 11 a.m. and the pool tournament finals for A and B divisions will begin at 1 p.m.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and the kiddie corner will be up and running from 3 p.m. on.

Four-on-four hockey will resume at 8 p.m. followed by the carnival dance featuring Fridge Full of Empties at 9 p.m.

The rink schedule for Saturday will see broomball from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., skating from 3 to 5 p.m., more broomball from 5 to 7 p.m. and four-on-four hockey at 8 p.m.

The carnival will wrap up Sunday with hockey from 1 to 3 p.m. and face painting at 1 p.m. There will be a magic show beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The roast beef supper will round out the activities and it begins at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults $6 kids five to 11 and children under five are fee. The 50/50 draw will take place at 7 p.m.
