Drug conference in Rockland

Coalition welcomes RCMP, doctors and U.S. law enforcement

The Prescott and Russell Coalition against Drugs will be hosting a conference in Rockland next month.
The conference, called “Drugs: Did you know?” will be held October 28 and 29 at the River Rock Inn.

The Coalition Against Drugs was formed about two years ago in Prescott-Russell. It is co-chaired by Russell Mayor Ken Hill and Catholic District School Board Trustee Sue Wilson.

The group says the conference will share information about drug use and its effects on communities.

During the conference, a representative of the RCMP’s anti-drug unit will speak about underground methamphetamine laboratories.

Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health and Executive Director of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, will also present statistics about drug use and its impact in the region.

The conference will also welcome two American speakers: John Duncan from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs and Dr. Kiti Freier a professor of psychology and pediatrics at Loma Linda University & Children's Hospital in Loma Linda, California.

To register for this conference, please contact Sylvie Séguin, Senior Management Attachée at the Valor Institute, 613-673-3583.
