Fatal VIA Rail train accident a possible suicide: OPP
Dateline:
Casselman
Russell Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) aren't releasing many details surrounding the death of a male pedestrian struck by a VIA Rail train in Casselman on Wednesday, July 21 but have indicated it's "quite possible" the man committed suicide.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on the railway tracks near Casselman.
Police were releasing little information on the incident Thursday morning, saying only that fatality involved a male "pedestrian."
VIA Rail said none of the passengers on the train, which was coming from Montreal, were injured. Buses were sent to the scene to bring the passengers to Ottawa.
If the investigation reveals the incident was a suicide, police will keep the man's identity confidential.
