Grant Crack reelected in North Glengarry, along with Maxville newcomer Carma Williams

Crack reelected

North Glengarry Mayor Grant Crack was reelected by township voters in a near-landslide win on Monday, October 25, receiving 2,162 votes compared to the 660 votes received by challenger Robert Proulx.

Crack's reelection was confirmed at 9 p.m. at his election headquarters on Main Street in Alexandria.

"Obviously, people weren't looking for a change," Crack told The Review shortly after his reelection was announced. "It feels good... it feels great."

The only other election race in North Glengarry saw incumbent Maxville councillor George Currier lose his long-held council seat to newcomer Carma Williams. Williams was handed the win with a 259-156 vote.

Councillors Gary Shepherd, Eric MacSweyn, Jim Picken, Jamie MacDonald and Deputy Mayor Chris McDonell had already won by acclamation.

"People right across the township supported this council and they can expect much of the same," Crack said. "I'm looking forward to working with this council again."

He thanked his "extraordinary" election team for its help, emphasizing the importance of "getting the vote out" as five councillors were already acclaimed.

"Early indications were that things would work out," he concluded.

"I would say the people of North Glengarry are content with the road we're traveling on."

The school board trustee for the Upper Canada District School Board is Arthur Buckland, who received 755 votes. Bradley C. Nuttley received 460 votes.

Jonathan De Serres won his post for French Catholic school board trustee by acclamation.
