Halloween... and children’s health!
Dateline:
everywhere
For one thing, refined sugar, better known as white sugar, works on the brain in a similar way to coffee: it’s a stimulant. Therefore, it’s not surprising that sugar increases hyperactive tendencies, aggressiveness and destructive behaviour in children. Also it’s important to note that attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity are two of the most frequent diagnosis for children, followed close by type II diabetes.
Secondly, children are attracted to bright colours but food additives and colourings can aggravate symptoms of autism, hyperactivity and behaviour problems. Also, some colouring agents have been linked to an increased chance of asthma attacks.
That shouldn’t be reason, though, to prevent our children from enjoying a little sweetness. Just keep moderation in mind. Remember that a diet, rich in sugar, colouring agents and other food additives can decrease the immune system, increase hyperactivity, decrease the attention span and increase the risk of developing major illnesses like diabetes. Have a happy Halloween and remember.. No excess.
