Comprised of 20 paddlers, a coach and a drummer, members of the Harrington Hurricanes are between the ages of 20 and 75 and train together once a month during the summer to prepare for the dragon boat race.

This is the second year that the Harrington Hurricanes have competed and it is the first time they have brought home a trophy.

Money raised by the dragon boat race will support the Cedars Cancer Institute, where it will be used to provide free psychological, practical and humanitarian support for cancer patients and their families. This year the Harrington Hurricanes raised $13,300 to support the program, ranking them as the fifth overall contributor, out of 37 teams.

Harrington Hurricanes team captain Norma Davis, 70, personally raised $3,000 which made her the fifth largest contributor amongst the 700 paddlers.

"It was such a great experience for everyone, and we’ll be back next year, trying to

do even better. We are the heart of the dragon, hear our roar!" said Davis.
