Hawkesbury-Champlain Peewee B Win Mississauga Tournament

HCGHA Peewee B Win Mississauga Tournament

The Hawkesbury-Champlain Peewee B team participated in the 29th Annual Mississauga Girls Christmas Tournament from December 27 to 29. The players were pumped and ready for their opponents. They played their first game against the home team, the Mississauga Chiefs. The girls showed the Chiefs that small town hockey can bring a big game as they walked out with a 4-0 victory. Goal scorers were: Titiana Gelineau, Melyna Lapensee and Juliane Lapensee with two. Shut-out goaltending was provided by Tosha Burns.
Game 2 saw the team face Victory Honda from Detroit, Michigan. Victory Honda opened the scoring early in the first period, the game remained 1-0 until the last minutes of the third period where they scored four unanswered goals. Goal scorers were: Tatian Gelineau with 2, Melyna Lapensee and Julianna Lapensee.
Game 3 was against St-Catherines, also undefeated in round robin play. But, once again, the girls played some of their best hockey with goals by: Jenna Cholette, Tatiana Gelineau, Melyna Lapensee and Juliane Lapensee with 2. The HCGHA Habs left the rink with a 5-2 victory.
Game 4 was against another undefeated team: the Vaughn Flames. That would not last though as the girls scored a total of seven goals in the first two periods. Melyna Lapensee led the charge with four goals, followed by Kayla Letouzel, Genevieve Seguin and Juliane Lapensee.
The Championship game would see the girls up against the Vaughn Flame, but with a different starting goal, the game proved to be more of a challenge. The game started to turn tides when the team rookie, Vanessa Cholette, scored her first of two goals. The girls were determined to win, and with the parents and siblings cheering loudly from the stands, the rest is golden. Melyna Lapensee topped the game off with 2 more goals and Tosha Burns finished the tournament the way she started it: with a shut-out. The team would go on to win the game 4-0, the first ever tournament win by an HCGHA team.
