High-speed chase ends when stolen truck slams into police car

A high-speed pursuit in a stolen truck ended quickly and violently on Wednesday, August 25, when a 41-year-old woman attempted to avoid a police pursuit - only to swerve around a spike belt and crash into a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) patrol car.

Police were first notified of the vehicle when a citizen phoned to report that a woman was seen driving in Lachute while holding a bottle of beer in her hand.

Within minutes of the call, SQ police officers arrived on the scene and verified that the license plate of the truck matched a vehicle stolen in Mille-Isles, Quebec on August 15, and which corresponded to the description of a vehicle involved in two cases where gasoline was stolen.

When patrol officers tried to intercept and halt the vehicle on Highway 158 in Lachute, the driver of the vehicle accelerated and fled.

Police pursued the stolen vehicle along Highway 158, where the chase ultimately ended in Mirabel, near Highway 15.

Three people were arrested in connection with the chase.

The 41-year-old driver of the vehicle has been charged with multiple offenses related to these crimes, while two passengers in the vehicle were also arrested, including a 43-year-old man from St-Ignace-de-Loyola and his 40-year-old wife, who was expected to be released following the investigation.
