Jean-Marc or Richard Lalonde?
There's nothing wrong with a little bit of sibling rivalry, but Jean-Marc and Richard Lalonde aren't interested in battling each other for the mayor's sit in the City of Clarence-Rockland.
The municipal election is set to take place on October 25 and while it is certain one of the Lalonde brothers will be vying for the mayor's seat, it's not quite clear which one.
After 15 years as MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Jean-Marc Lalonde has indicated he wouldn't mind finishing his political career the same way he started - as mayor of the City of Clarence-Rockland.
"I have numerous projects on the go in Toronto right now, so I will have to wait and see," Jean-Marc Lalonde commented. "I can say that when I look at all the effort that has been put into Clarence-Rockland in terms of development, I don't want it to slide through the hands of someone who would destroy all of this progress."
The mayoral seat is currently occupied by Jean Marc Lalonde's brother, Richard Lalonde, who has yet to announce his intentions for the upcoming municipal election.
Jean-Marc Lalonde has said he doesn't wish to run against his brother.
"I wouldn't do that," he remarked. "I'm not interested in running against him."
Richard Lalonde has indicated, on more than one occasion, that this could be his last term as mayor. However, that may change is his brother decides not to put his name forward for the position.
"If Jean-Marc doesn't run, I would think very seriously about running again," Lalonde said. "I want to make sure the best interests of the population continue to be served. I will wait for my brother's decision before I make my own."
So far, Marcel Guibord is the only candidate to officially declare his intention to run for the position of mayor of the city.
