L’Orignal man charged in sex assaults dating back decades

In what police are calling a historic alleged sexual assault case, 69-year-old man from L'Orignal is facing charges in 15 sexual assaults that occurred between 1959 and 1986.

Roger Joly was a minor himself when the assaults on "a multitude of boys and girls" began, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police said.

The investigation began after a man reported that he had been sexually assaulted numerous times between the ages of eight and 12.

Police said that more complaints followed.
Police said Joly was "well-known by all the families of the victims."

Joly faces 15 charges, including five counts of indecent assault on a female and 10 counts of indecent assault on a male.

He was arrested and released. His first court appearance is scheduled for October 10 at 9 a.m. at the court house in L'Orignal.

The Hawkesbury OPP wish to remind everyone that it is never too late to report a sexual assault and is asking anyone who may have experienced similar incidents to call Detective Sergeant Dan Levert of the Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit at 613-632-2729.
