Minor charge issued in fatal motorcycle collision

A 57-year-old man of Vankleek Hill has been charged with a Highway Traffic Act violation following a fatal collision on County Road 20 in The Nation last November.

Hawkesbury resident Adrienne Duval, 59, was killed just after 1 p.m. on November 12 when her motorcycle collided with a dump truck that was exiting a private driveway onto County Road 20, just west of Pearl Road.

An air ambulance attended the scene and landed in a nearby field but did not transport the victim, as she was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The death has since been ruled an accident, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), however the driver of the dump truck has been charged with failure to yield from a private road, an infraction that carries a $110 penalty.

Hawkesbury OPP Const. Pierre Dubois noted in this case, the driver has instead been issued a summons to appear in court.

"Usually that is the set fine, but in this case he was served a summons to appear in court because of the nature of the incident," Dubois said. "We always have an option, when we give a ticket, to issue a summons. What that does is it leaves the judge to decide the amount of the fine."

The driver had a first appearance in provincial court on December 23 and is expected in court at a later date.

Typical

The dump truck driver was probably the cops brother. if it happened to anyone else it would be careless driving for the dump truck driver for sure.
