Murray Allen recognized by township as senior of the year

L'Orignal resident Murray Allen was formally recognized by Champlain Township as its senior citizen of the year, and was awarded a certificate of recognition from the province during the council meeting last Wednesday, June 8.

"I must say, the gentleman here is definitely a senior citizen," Mayor Gary Barton joked, in announcing the award. "But Murray doesn't always live like one."

In that respect, the mayor noted that Allen was chosen for this year's award because of his continued involvement in the community, despite the ongoing work at his own farm operation, Allensite Farms in L'Orignal.

Among other things, he said Allen is president of the Vankleek Hill Curling Club, director of a local branch of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, a director of the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society, a singer in the Cassburn Church choir, and a director of the Fiddle and Step Dance Association.

"I do a lot of these things, but certainly I think we're very honoured and blessed to be living in this part of the world, and certainly in this area," Allen said. "It's my pleasure, and an honour, to receive this award."
