New Eastern Ontario specialized adult services entity now open

Prescott-Russell Services to Children and Adults (PRSCA) has inaugurated a new entity aimed at helping adults with developmental deficiencies and mental health problems.

Solution-s was launched on January 20 in partnership with the PRSCA’s other two organizations, the Valor Institute and Groupe Convex, and a group from Kingston.PRSCA is jointly leading the Eastern Ontario Community Network of Specialized Care with Kingston agency Ongwanada and developing and managing the Crisis Prevention and Intervention Program for adults.

That led to the development of Solution-s, which is a non-profit corporation.

It provides and facilitates access to specialized clinical support and services including psychology, social work, psychiatry, medical safeguarding, speech therapy, behaviour management and nursing.

Solution-s also manages treatment beds throughout the region located in community facilities and hospitals and offers its services through a mobile team.

With Solution-s, the Prescott-Russell organization is getting the opportunity to serve communities outside its mandate, serving the Ottawa region, Renfrew County and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry as well as the Prescott-Russell area.

And while it is headed by the PRSCA, Solution-s' main office is located in the eastern part of Ottawa.

“We are … tremendously proud to see a Prescott-Russell agency chosen to lead such a big initiative,” said PRSCA communications co-ordinator Isabelle Marcil.

Adults with developmental disabilities and mental health or behavioural difficulties can be some of the most challenging people for service agencies to serve in community settings, the PRSCA said.

A key factor in successful treatment and support is the co-ordination and networking that needs to happen between caregivers, families, social service agencies, treatment services and health services.

The Ministry of Community and Social Services has given a high priority to establishing regional networks of specialized care throughout the province.
