New Staples in Hawkesbury
To use an office-supply metaphor, you might say it was a “highlight” of the weekend; a day to circle on your organizational calendar in bright red Sharpie.
Hawkesbury’s new Staples franchise opened its doors on January 25, welcoming residents and a few special guests.
General Manager Chantal Demers said the store created 20 jobs in the region.
During the opening ceremony, the store welcomed members of the Glengarry Giants, who are local athletes with mental disabilities, since Staples is a sponsor of the Canadian Special Olympics.
Diane DeFreitas, Gerald Massia, Tyler Stambouli and Jacob Courville shook hands with employees as they helped open the store.
Hawkesbury town councillor Gilles Tessier was also there, and said the store was good news for Hawkesbury’s economy.
“The people of the region are used to Staples but they usually travel to Rockland or Vaudreuil,” he said. “Now they will come here and they’ll do a bit of shopping here instead. With the economy these days it’s a good sign that we can still create jobs in the region. The people who work here will spend their money in Hawkesbury, and it’s going to help others.”
