News about us!
This weekend is traditionally a slower news weekend for us, meaning that there are not many events organized on what is usually a weekend devoted to staying at home or spending time with one's family.
However, this weekend there is one event that has become tradition: the Pottery Sale at Marlin Orchards, which is located on Highway 2, 7 kilometres east of Cornwall.
Our phones are starting to get busy here at The Review as orders for tickets to the Victorian Christmas Home Tour (set for November 7) are pouring in. I have been out photographing homes during the past two days and feel that we have such beautiful homes in our small town.
One beautiful stone home has lovely aged floors, and windows set in deep window wells. A wonderful Canadiana feeling exists in this open-concept home, which features a European-style fireplace in the middle -- what a beautiful warm glow spreads throughout the family/dining room. I know that visitors will be impressed with the decor and the wonderful holiday touches that decorator Carole Robert has installed. I was down there speaking to her about how she decides on elements for every home and what a lot of details she has to keep in mind. We will be featuring some sneak peaks in this week's Review of this home and next week, we'll be showing you the inside of still another home to be featured on the tour.
And what else is new? We welcomed Concordia journalism graduate Justin Bromberg to The Review's newsroom this week. Justin brings our news staff numbers back to two, after Matthew Talbot left us about one month ago. Justin is proficient not only in journalism, but in photography and multi-media work. We're giving him a few days to get settled, but watch for some sound slides and videos from Justin soon.
Plus: We are just in the middle of switching to a new VOIP (Voice Over Internet Phone) system. It's a big departure for all of us, complete with voicemail and call forwarding capabilities, so we are excited about it. I am hoping that all of you who call here will appreciate this move to a new system for new time savings and, of course, money savings. Plus: our toll-free number will be functional throughout North America instead of just Quebec and Ontario.
Coming soon will be a sort of virtual tour of our offices here at The Review. Review journalist Philippe Morin is working on this project. There will be a link to it on the front page of our website.
Today is Friday, but for us, it is really like a Monday as we are closed for Thanksgiving Monday. That means we are deep into story editing, ad production and I have yet to write an editorial and it's 2:37 p.m.
Please send me an email at lsproule@thereview.ca if you have suggestions, photos or story ideas to share. Your views are always welcome!
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
