No evidence of manure spill at hog farm: MOE

The Ministry of Environment says there is no evidence of a manure spill in Glen Robertson, despite several reports.

The investigation began after officials in North Glengarry Township contacted the ministry's office in Cornwall, saying they had been informed of a manure spill at a hog farm on County Road 21.

Nearby residents also contacted The Review, saying there had been sightings of ministry or township officials at the site sometime between October 12 and 14.

According to Lindsay Davidson, an MOE media relations officer, township staff visited the site and MOE staff contacted the owner and site manager. Neither produced any evidence of a spill, but to be certain, the MOE sent one of its officers to the site on Tuesday, October 18.

"One of our officers went out and found no evidence of any leak or spill from the outside storage facility," said Davidson. "However, if there is any new information, the public can always contact the local MOE office and we will certainly respond and look into seeing if there's any evidence of a leak or spill."

A form of Harassment

My heart goes out to the poor farmer who was subjected to this harassment. The fact that again! No evidence was found to support the claim of wrong doing on a farmers behalf is becoming all to frequent. Anonymous calls need to stop and are doing more harm than good.
