Oil leak closes Campbell Community Centre
The Campbell Community Centre in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge will remain closed through the Christmas holidays an oil leak in the basement of the building on Monday, November 28.
According to library committee president Suzanne Champagne, extensive damages occurred after the oil tank in the furnace room leaked oil throughout the basement of the building, which houses a library and community centre.
Decontamination crews will be spending the next few weeks tearing out the floors, sub-floors and cement foundation, before pouring a new foundation and laying new floors.
Champagne said the building is dirty and without heat but, despite the uncomfortable conditions, volunteers are continuing to work with the decontamination unit to repair and clean the building as quickly as possible.
The library has been opened for barely a year and according to Champagne, the building was insured.
The municipality placed a notice outside its office and online, advising residents of an "incident" at the Campbell Community Centre. The notice provided few details other than saying the library would be closed temporarily to allow for building cleanup duties.
"We can reestablish our normal services once the situation permits it," concluded the notice, signed by municipal director-general Pascal Surprenant.
Municipal staff did not respond to messages left by The Review at the municipal office, inquiring about the nature of the "incident" referred to in the notice.
