Hundreds of families flooded a Hawkesbury high school on October 30, as the Eastern Ontario Health Unit started its distribution of the H1N1 vaccine.

Louise Simmons, who is office supervisor for the health unit, said 1,000 doses were distributed.

When the the clinic opened at 4 p.m. at l'école secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury, there were already long lines outside the building.

Organizers had to close the doors at 6:30 because there were too many people.

Many people in the crowd — parents as well as health workers — reported waiting more than four hours to obtain a vaccine.

The clinics are happening throughout Eastern Ontario and will continue throughout the weekend.
