The students of Plantagenet Public School (PPS) hosted the school's annual Christmas concert in front of friends, parents and staff members on Thursday, December 16.

The performance, entitled "December in Our Town," was written by Roger Emerson, orchestrated by John Higgins and directed by PPS teacher Mrs. Wilson.

The story begins on the eve of Christmas vacation, where a group of friends is reminded of an important holiday task: collecting non-perishable food items for families who are in need during the festive season.

As the children proceed through their neighborhood, they visit a variety of friends who introduce them to holiday traditions from around the world.

The entire student body began the recital with a rendition of "December in Our Town," followed by the Grade 7 class singing "Light the Candles," a song in celebration of Chanukah.

Next up, both the junior and senior kindergarten classes were joined by Grades 1 and 2 for the performance of "The Innkeeper," which featured a traditional nativity scene.

The celebration of Kwanzaa was displayed by Grades 3 and 4, followed by "Rockin' Old St. Nicholas" carried out by Grade 8 students.

Grade 5 and 6 students then took the stage as they sang about "La Fiesta," Mexico's Christmas celebration.

The evening full of celebration came to an end with the singing of "The Season of Hope" and a reprise of "December in Our Town," once again performed by the entire student body.

Immediately following the recital, the students offered their thanks and appreciation to Mme. Brown, Mrs. Ricker, and Mrs. Wilson for all of their hard work and dedication during the preparation stages and for ensuring the 2010 Christmas concert was a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

However, the Christmas concert was not the only event keeping students and staff busy at PPS in recent weeks. November saw a number of wonderful events take place, including a book sale, a bake sale and, with only a matter of days left before Christmas vacation, students will continue to work on Santa's Workshop and Holiday Bingo at PPS.

The Bear Hug Day Care Centre, located within PPS, also opened its doors in early November and is open to children during before and after-school hours. For more information on the daycare services, please call 613-277-3159.
