Playground build day in Maxville approaching

Volunteers needed for August 22 build event
The build day for the playground expansion in Maxville is coming up.
On August 22, volunteers from all over will be gathering in the village to help build a new playground for area children and also augment the existing play structures.
A ‘Let Them Be Kids' grant is covering 40 per cent of the cost of the playground equipment only. The remainder and all other peripheral projects must be covered by funds raised.
A fundraiser is being held on Saturday at noon at the site, which includes a draw with prizes up for grabs.
Meanwhile, the first annual Glengarry County Charity Motorcycle "Poker Run" happens the same day from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will wind its way along scenic back roads throughout historic North and South Glengarry Townships. At the Maxville checkpoint (between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.) riders will be encouraged to purchase 50/50 tickets in support of the Maxville Playground
The build happens from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The new playground is being dedicated to Pipe Major John Thompson MacKenzie, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 84.
It was intended that the playground be dedicated to a local fallen hero or a local hero who has served in the armed forces.
MacKenzie saw active service in the Second World War and was a significant player in the growth of the Glengarry Highland Games into a world renowned event.
