St-Isidore recreation centre opens doors to renovated facilities
The St-Isidore Recreation Centre has received a new lease on life.
On Tuesday, June 28, The Nation Municipality held a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the work to improve the St-Isidore Recreation Centre.
Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MP Pierre Lemieux, MPP Jean-Marc Lalonde for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell and The Nation Mayor François St-Amour gathered to cut the ribbon and officially open the renovated arena.
The arena was closed to the public this winter after rot was discovered in several main supports during a $2-million renovation and expansion project. The 40-year-old facility was closed to the public for several months while upgrades were completed.
Lalonde noted upgrades to the community centre included the construction of two new change rooms with accessible showers and washrooms, while a barrier-free washroom was added to the bowling alley. A new entrance was also created, and a public elevator to the second floor was built.
The federal and provincial governments each committed up to $663,372 to the eligible costs for the project. The Nation contributed the balance for a total cost of $1.99 million.
"This project ensures that all members of the community have access to our recreation facilities, helping to remove barriers to healthy, active lifestyles for all residents," said Lemieux.
