Two killed in head-on collision near Alfred

Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene following a fatal collision on County Road 17 near Alfred early Tuesday morning.

Officers with the Hawkesbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the collision on Tuesday, January 3 at around 3:15 a.m., between County Road 15 and Peladeau Road.

A driver of a pickup truck and a driver of a transport truck both died at scene, according to Sgt. Kristine Rae. The driver of the pickup, Ghislain Landry, 31, of Orleans and the driver of a transport truck, Gordon Wray, 56, of Oshawa, both died at scene.

Prescott-Russell paramedics confirmed that neither driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

"The OPP's technical traffic collision investigators are continuing to assist in determining the cause of the crash," said Sgt. Rae.

The road remained closed with detours in place for most of the day, but was reopened as of Tuesday afternoon.
