Unidentified body recovered from North River in Lachute

The body of an unidentified person was found floating in the North River in Lachute, on March 12 at 7:20 a.m.

According to Sûréte du Quebec spokesman Benoit Richard, a pedestrian walking on Hamford Street first noticed the body when they saw a hand sticking out of the North River. The body was recovered by the police and pulled from the water near the Cascades tissue plant.

Police are currently unable to report on whether the body was male or female. Initial reports estimate that the person had been in the water for days, if not months.

"We will perform an autopsy this week. It could be a person we have spentmonths looking for, but we won't know until after the autopsy,"said Richard.
