Sirens blared through the streets of Saint-André-d'Argenteuil early on Friday, January 14, waking up many local residents and sending them to their windows to watch a blazing fire at Bar le Marina.

A silent alarm in Bar le Marina, located at 258 Route de Long-Sault, first detected the presence of smoke at 4:46 a.m. It issued an alert to the Saint-André d'Argenteuil Fire Department, who arrived on the scene within minutes.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

"When we arrived the building was totally engulfed in flames and there was fire and smoke in the attic," said Saint-André d'Argenteuil fire chief Claude Giguère.

Nearly 40 firefighters from Sainte-André d'Argenteuil, Lachute and Brownsburg-Chatham worked for two hours to regain control of the blaze and put out the fire.

Damages to the Bar le Marina were extensive and the total cost of damages is listed as high as $200,000.
