The Town of Hawkesbury has struck a deal with Fitlife, a local gym, for classes and activities at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex.

The deal, which was discussed at Hawkesbury’s latest council meeting, will see the municipality and Fitlife split revenues 50-50 from a variety of new activities offered in the complex’s multipurpose room.

The municipality polled 123 residents about what activities should be offered at the complex. Interests included dance and ultimate Frisbee for younger residents and badminton and zumba for older residents.

The one-year agreement with Fitlife includes some free activities as well as some with a registration fee. A running program, badminton, and pickleball, a slower variation of badminton, will be offered for free. Other activities, including zumba, “bootcamp,” yoga, and dance will be offered for between $60 and $80 for residents and $80 and $96 for non-residents. The course instructors will be Fitlife employees, while Hawkesbury will provide the venue and manage registration. The contract also says Hawkesbury must not compete with Fitlife, must approach the gym first when looking for new instructors or equipment, and must not make “any declaration” which could damage Fitlife’s reputation. Similarly, Fitlife has agreed not to make any statements which could hurt Hawkesbury’s reputation. The contract expires in October of 2017.
